Its Beginning to Feel A Lot Like Christmas

I’m not going to lie. I put up my Christmas two weeks before Thanksgiving. l knew if I didn’t jump in and get it done then that I would never get done. Plus, we don’t spend Thanksgiving at our house, so it was really nice to come home from camping and have it all done!

This is the first year we’ve had a house, so that means its the first year to hang lights on a house! It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.

First we had to decide what kind of lights we wanted. Actually, it wasn’t much of a decision, we already knew we wanted LED and plain white strands. I am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas lights- I like simple decorations. You will never find blow up santas in my front yard, or multi colored icicle lights.

For me, Christmas is full of nostalgia and elegance. So simple white lights fit that bill perfectly. We picked up a strand of LED’s from Lowe’s. We only did the line of the house right in the front this year. I wanted to go up the peak above the garage, but it is REALLY steep and it was very windy the day we put them up. I decided I didn’t want my hubby to die hanging Christmas lights, so we opted out this year.

lovelucklorelai52We also put lights around the windows on the inside. Again, we went with LED’s and stuck them to the inside of the windows with these fancy suction cups they sell to put up lights.

We have a 6 foot tree, and it looks really wimpy in our house. It felt huge in our old apartment, but now that we have vaulted ceilings, it feels tiny! So I’m on the lookout for an after Christmas deal- hopefully with LED lights. With the LED on the outside, and the other on the inside it is a pretty drastic difference–one really cool, and one really warm. No thank you.

I plan on putting the current tree in the basement next year so we can put all of our ornaments from growing up on that tree down there. On the new tree I plan to make a “grown up” tree. Mainly, just red and silver ball ornaments, with garland. A traditional Christmas tree.

I tried to get Gizmo to pose in front of the tree, and he was not having any part of it. Such a Debbie Downer!

One of my favorite parts of the Holidays is having friends over to sit and talk in front of the fire. Open a bottle of wine, maybe play some board games. Always a great time.

I hope your Christmas decorating is as fun as mine was!

Thankful for Thanksgiving

Hi Friends.

Its been a while. I know I know. I was slacking on the blog posts. Thanksgiving snuck up on me! As I’ve said before, my family goes camping every year for Thanksgiving. Now most people would label us as crazy. Its cold, we don’t shower, and we sleep in tents/trailers. For me though, it is such a great time to unwind, un-connect, and just enjoy my family.

The land we camp on is my Great Great Grandparents land. It is in the middle of nowhere Arkansas, and it is amazing. The picture below is of the original barn on the property. My siblings and cousins played in the loft when we were little, rehearsing plays, or making some concoctions from some random berries.

Here is my awesome family that camped this year! My Cousin, Uncle, Dad, Mom, Me, Dave, Brother, and Grandma .

We had a great time! We hiked through the woods, went four wheeling, and did some target practice. Dave has only shot a gun a couple times before this, so everyone thought it was hilarious that I was a better shot than him. πŸ™‚

This is when we went hiking through the woods. The woods were clear cut about a year ago, so it was full of brush and briars. Let me tell you traipsing through briars is not the most fun thing. Good thing we all had our Carhartt’s on, otherwise we would have been torn up! Dave even got decked out in Carhartt and orange. I have to say I find it pretty attractive. Maybe its the Jeffco in me πŸ˜‰

How beautiful is this? The pine trees and open space. I wish I could live here and still be somewhat close to civilization. But back to reality…

My brother and his dog Maui. Maui is a Pit Bull/Border Collie mix. She is so lovey and cuddly. She gives the best puppy kisses.

This was my favorite shot of the weekend. The pond at camp. This picture totally captures how peaceful and awe-inspiring nature is. Truly one of God’s greatest creations.

I tried doing a some long exposures of the night sky, but I couldn’t get any shots that were what I was trying to capture. I think that is going to take some practice. Here is one half-decent shot I got that does not even compare to what the sky actually looked like.

This weekend was a great reminder of how thankful I am for all the blessings I have in my life. My God, my family, friends, my job. Too many things to count. I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving.

On to Christmas!!!
