I’m not going to lie. I put up my Christmas two weeks before Thanksgiving. l knew if I didn’t jump in and get it done then that I would never get done. Plus, we don’t spend Thanksgiving at our house, so it was really nice to come home from camping and have it all done!
This is the first year we’ve had a house, so that means its the first year to hang lights on a house! It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.
First we had to decide what kind of lights we wanted. Actually, it wasn’t much of a decision, we already knew we wanted LED and plain white strands. I am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas lights- I like simple decorations. You will never find blow up santas in my front yard, or multi colored icicle lights.
For me, Christmas is full of nostalgia and elegance. So simple white lights fit that bill perfectly. We picked up a strand of LED’s from Lowe’s. We only did the line of the house right in the front this year. I wanted to go up the peak above the garage, but it is REALLY steep and it was very windy the day we put them up. I decided I didn’t want my hubby to die hanging Christmas lights, so we opted out this year.
We have a 6 foot tree, and it looks really wimpy in our house. It felt huge in our old apartment, but now that we have vaulted ceilings, it feels tiny! So I’m on the lookout for an after Christmas deal- hopefully with LED lights. With the LED on the outside, and the other on the inside it is a pretty drastic difference–one really cool, and one really warm. No thank you.
I plan on putting the current tree in the basement next year so we can put all of our ornaments from growing up on that tree down there. On the new tree I plan to make a “grown up” tree. Mainly, just red and silver ball ornaments, with garland. A traditional Christmas tree.
I tried to get Gizmo to pose in front of the tree, and he was not having any part of it. Such a Debbie Downer!
One of my favorite parts of the Holidays is having friends over to sit and talk in front of the fire. Open a bottle of wine, maybe play some board games. Always a great time.
I hope your Christmas decorating is as fun as mine was!
